Belgian School Open Meeting & Didier Viviers

Tuesday, November 23, 2021 - 19:15 to 21:00
“Kostis Palamas” building, University of Athens, Akadimias 48 & Sina
Event Description:

Moving toward a “normality” in academic activities and since we didn’t offer a public report on our various activities for 2019-2020, the Belgian School at Athens organizes a “two-year” Annual Meeting.

This year’s Annual Meeting will be taking place at the “Kostis Palamas” building of the University of Athens (Akadimias 48 & Sina, Athens), November 23rd at 7:15 pm. After a welcome speech by H.E. the Ambassador of Belgium Mrs Françoise Gustin, the director of the EBSA, Prof. Jan Driessen will present the exciting field activities at Thorikos, Sissi, and Itanos while also reporting on the numerous other academic activities which took place in 2019 and 2020 both in Greece and in Belgium.

This presentation will be followed by a lecture by Prof. Didier Viviers (ULB/Royal Academy of Belgium) on "Apamea in Syria: archaeology, war and politics”.

These lectures will be followed by a reception offered, as always, by the Ambassador in the same “Kostis Palamas” building.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only a limited number of places will be available, so a first-come, first-serve order will be followed. For those who wish to “reserve” their place, please register to: as soon as possible. There will be no hybrid, online recording of the event.

Also, all participants should be able to demonstrate either a valid vaccination pass or a PCR negative test (72 hours prior to the event) or a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 (in the last six months).

You are all welcome to attend!
